Wednesday, January 08, 2020
The Wilmington Fire Department will conduct a live fire instructor training exercise at 4641 Fillmore Drive on Thursday, January 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The property formerly known as the Glen Apartments will be the location for the all-day Live Burn Instructor Certification class being conducted by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal.Residents and businesses in the immediate area have been notified of the training and the potential of smoke in the area.
The training will begin at 8 with a safety briefing, and the designated structure will be burned down by 5 p.m.
“The opportunity to practice firefighting on acquired structures in a training environment instead of an emergency is invaluable for our team members,” states Fire Chief C.V. “Buddy” Martinette. “We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding for any inconvenience this training may cause.”
At the request of the property owner and to ensure the safety of all participants, this will be a closed training event. For more information, please contact the department’s Public Information Officer at 910.765.7458.
