Wednesday, January 15, 2020
Fifteen individuals have been selected as recipients of the 2019-20 Discere Aude Award for outstanding mentoring of students. The Discere Aude Award recognizes faculty and staff who were nominated by academically successful students. Those nominations are vetted by members of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Center for Faculty Leadership Advisory Board.
“One of UNCW’s long-standing hallmarks is that we provide students with powerful learning opportunities that connect the classroom to the lab, studio, clinic, workplace, waterways and community,” said Diana Ashe, director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Center for Faculty Leadership. “Making those connections for and with our students requires another layer of dedication by our faculty and staff, and the Center for Teaching Excellence created these awards years ago to recognize that dedication by asking the students themselves about their high-impact mentoring experiences.”
Recipients were recognized by UNCW Provost Marilyn Sheerer during a “Celebration of Teaching” luncheon on Jan. 15. “So many of our faculty and staff go above and beyond; we will take every opportunity we can get to recognize their hard work and their belief in our students,” Ashe added.
