Flags Ordered at Half-Staff Across NC in Honor of Wilmington Soldier

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Monday, January 27, in honor of Spc. Antonio I. Moore, a U.S. Army Reserve Soldier from Wilmington. According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Defense, Moore, 22, died in an accident while conducting operations in Syria as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. Moore was the son of D.C. Virgo football coach, Will Vereen. D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy is a K-8 year-round public school that was opened by UNCW in July 2018.
Spc. Moore was a graduate of John T. Hoggard High School and was a member of the football team. His awards and decorations include National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Flags are to remain at half-staff through sunset on Tuesday, February 4.
