Campus, Community Collaborate to Bring “Art for the Masses”
Friday, November 15, 2019
Since 2012, UNCW has been providing "Art for the Masses" with the annual show and sale. This year’s event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the Burney Center.
Attendees can purchase unique, handmade pieces from 60 artists at affordable prices (nothing more than $300); enjoy mini-lessons in glass blowing and purchase items from an onsite food truck.
UNCW students Shannon Pelkey ’20 and Frances Santana ’20 are coordinating this year’s AFTM. Pelkey is proud to be part of “a meaningful, fun event that allows nonprofits, students and artists from the community to come together to make art accessible to a wide range of people and celebrate regional craftsmanship.”
AFTM is free and open to the public with a requested door donation to help fund public arts projects at the university. The program is coordinated through Campus Life Arts and Programs and the Department of Art and Art History. Participating artists retain 100 percent of the proceeds from their sales.
Social media users can follow the Instagram handle @aftmcl and the Facebook page for artist previews and event updates. Posts may be tagged #aftm2019.
