WEATHER ALERT: Tornado Watch in Effect for New Hanover County, Surrounding Counties

Sunday, April 14, 2019

There is a tornado WATCH in effect for New Hanover County and the surrounding region until 2 a.m. EDT. A "watch," as opposed to a "warning," indicates severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that tornadoes will occur -- only that they are possible. We are making you aware of this possibility now to provide ample time for preparation, should the watch escalate to a warning. Please ensure that your cell phones are charged and powered on, with the volume activated, so you will receive any tornado watch alerts issued by the National Weather Service and/or campus. If this watch escalates to a warning, the university will send a text alert via your registered cell phone number. (If you are a student, your cell number on file is already registered, unless you have opted out. If you are a faculty or staff member and you have not registered a cell phone number for emergency alerts, please visit this page to do so.) This message will also be shared via the university’s social media channels. You can continue to monitor weather conditions here: http://www.weather.gov/ilm/. Thank you for your attention.
