Patricia Leonard, UNCW Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, is a 2019 appointee to the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council, which directs the development of the annual State Medical Facilities Plan. Members are appointed by the Governor via Executive Order. Vice Chancellor Leonard is one of 11 at-large members who represent other health professions, business and industry.
"I am honored to have Governor Cooper appoint me to this board and look forward to serving for the betterment of our state,” said Leonard, who served on the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees for 13 years.
A lifelong student affairs professional, she was the 2013 recipient of The John Jones Award for Outstanding Performance as a Senior Student Affairs Officer. The award is given annually by the NASPA Foundation, the leading association for the advancement, health and sustainability of the student affairs profession.
Leonard first joined UNCW in July 1983 as the associate dean of students, after holding posts at UNC Charlotte and Miami University of Ohio. Under her leadership, she has overseen the renovation and construction of many campus facilities, including the new multi-million dollar student housing complex that is currently under construction.
She has played an integral role in the growth and success UNCW has seen over the last decades. Most recently, she helped bring the campus community back together in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
