Shooting From the Heart: UNCW, Clemson Team Up for Hurricane Relief Game Oct. 27

Friday, October 19, 2018

The 2018-19 UNCW Men’s Basketball regular season officially begins Nov. 7 when they square off against longtime state rival Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. In the meantime, a familiar face but unfamiliar foe will join them on the floor of Trask Coliseum for a very good cause.

The Seahawks will host Atlantic Coast Conference member Clemson in an exhibition game at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 to raise money for Hurricane Florence relief efforts.

Current UNCW head coach C.B. McGrath and former UNCW and current Clemson head coach Brad Brownell talked in the aftermath of Florence. Brownell, who headed up the UNCW program from 2002-06, was already slated to be in town to deliver the keynote address at the annual UNCW Men’s Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on Friday, Oct. 26. The two coaches came up with the idea of an exhibition game with their respective squads to help with relief efforts in Wilmington.

"We're looking forward to welcoming Brad and his team to Wilmington for this special game,” said McGrath, who is in his second year as the Seahawk skipper. “We're hoping the community will turn out to raise money to help everyone in this part of the state get back on their feet."

At halftime, there will be a check presentation to the Good Shepherd Center and Campus Emergency Fund (Student Hurricane Relief), which will benefit from the proceeds of game. In addition, the Seahawk Club, in cooperation with the Office of Annual Giving, will have two stations set up inside Trask for additional contributions.

Tickets are $20 each and available through uncwsports.com; by calling 1.800.808.UNCW; or by visiting the UNCW Athletics Ticket Office in Trask Coliseum (Room 110).
