Office of the Arts Announces 27th Season of UNCW Presents

Friday, June 22, 2018

The 27th season of UNCW Presents will take patrons to beautiful and profound places from the comfort of their seats.

This year’s UNCW Presents lineup features cultivating, diverse and distinctive stories with presentations by Step Afrika and Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble as well as rising artists like Zoe and Cloyd. Other performances include Dance Theatre of Harlem; Silk Road Ensemble, a group founded by Yo Yo Ma, which follows the musical thread of the Silk Road; and humorist, comedian and author David Sedaris.

“Our vision to inspire, connect, and cultivate guides our season planning process,” said Kristen Brogdon, director of the Office of the Arts and interim associate vice chancellor for community engagement.

Artists are working collaboratively across disciplines, Brogdon said. Theatre Re incorporates dance and live music with theatre, Jenny Scheinman’s Kannapolis pairs original music with archival film, and Fred Hersch’s jazz settings are inspired by Walt Whitman’s poetry.

“UNCW Presents artists are thoughtful and entertaining and will take our imagination on an incredible journey,” she added.

Tickets for the 2018-19 UNCW Presents season are available at the Kenan Box Office Monday through Friday from 12 to 6 p.m.; by phone at 910.962.3500 or 800.732.3643; or online. For more information, visit www.uncw.edu/arts/presents.
