UNCW to Host 2018 Wilmington Information Technology eXchange April 10

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Students, faculty, staff and regional IT professionals are invited to attend the 15th annual Wilmington Information Technology eXchange (WITX) on April 10 at UNCW. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker Eric Boyette, participate in learning eXchanges and view exhibits.

“The goals of this year’s event are to continue to grow UNCW as a hub of technology knowledge and experiences in North Carolina, grow the networking between IT workers in southeast North Carolina and increase dialogue between industry and our students,” said Tom Janicki, conference chair and professor of management information systems.

Keynote speaker Eric Boyette has served as the secretary and State Chief Information Officer for the North Carolina Department of Information Technology since April 2017 and leads statewide IT planning and operations. Boyette will speak about the challenges ahead for current and future IT workers in the state as well as what skills and technology proficiency employees should gain in order to maintain competitiveness in the IT marketplace.

While the overall conference will be familiar, attendees can expect a few new changes for WITX.

“For our fifteenth year we will have more ‘hands-on’ exhibits, a live Twitter/Instagram feed and increased corporate exhibits featuring leading technologies,” Janicki said.

WITX will host representatives from tekMountain, Nutanix, CastleBranch, Live Oak, UNCW and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In addition, WITX will feature “Ignite,” an information session where a few topics are presented to the audience over a span of 40 minutes. This unique process encourages presenters to be precise while also keeping presentations fun.

All attendees must register prior to April 8. There is no cost for UNCW students to attend. The event begins at 2 p.m. and is located in the Computer Systems Information Building on the UNCW campus. For more information and to register, visit the WITX website
