Monday, February 20, 2017
Melinda J. Anderson, director of University College, has been appointed to the council of the National Association for Academic Advising.
NACADA promotes student success by advancing the field of academic advising globally. The organization provides opportunities for professional development, networking and leadership for its diverse members. Council members are responsible for managing the policies, procedures and programs to meet member needs and advance the association. Anderson will serve a two-year term.
"I’m passionate about student success and I look forward to supporting NACADA's efforts to advance the field of academic advising,” said Anderson. “As a critical piece to supporting student success, academic advising has been elevated and highlighted as a key practice to increase retention and persistence. I will learn all that I can from this experience and incorporate best practices at UNCW."
Advancing university academic programming, scholarly activities and global learning are key components of UNCW’s Strategic Plan.
Anderson joined UNCW in August 2015. She was formerly the director of pre-health and pre-law advising at Virginia Commonwealth University and has more than 15 years of experience in higher education.
