WEATHER ALERT: UNCW Operating on Normal Schedule on Monday

Sunday, January 08, 2017

Posted: 12:45 p.m., Jan. 8

UNCW will open and operate on its normal class/service schedule on Monday, Jan. 9.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is paramount, but because one travel report will not apply for everyone, please make decisions about your personal safety based on your particular situation. If conditions in your area or along your intended route would impair safe travel, wait until conditions improve before setting out.

Students who will be absent from scheduled classes due to travel conditions should contact their instructors. Provost Sheerer requests that faculty remain flexible regarding class absences due to travel conditions. Faculty and staff should refer to the Adverse Weather Policy (Condition 1) to determine their best personal course of action on Monday.

Interstates as well as US and NC routes in Southeastern North Carolina currently are listed as clear or clear with possible icy spots. At the time of this message, Interstate 40, US HWY 421, US 17 and US 74/76 are currently passable within 130 miles of UNCW. This information is accurate as of the distribution time of this message. For the latest information, go to http://tims.ncdot.gov/tims/ and click on the region and route you plan to take, then click on the “Adverse Weather” tab. Counties listed as clear or clear with some icy spots are passable; however, caution should always be used in shaded areas and on elevated surfaces.

As a reminder, a Kenan Auditorium program scheduled for tonight (Jan. 8) has been postponed. Please see individual event websites for the latest details about campus activities.

If conditions warrant a change to the university's decision to operate on its normal schedule tomorrow, a message will be sent out before 5 p.m., but at this time, a change is not expected. Updates also will be posted on the UNCW homepage. Thank you for your attention.
