UNCW Designated a ‘Military Friendly’ School

Friday, November 11, 2016

UNCW has once again been recognized for its efforts to support veterans, active-duty service members and their families by Military Friendly®, a brand nationally recognized as a trusted resource on post-military education and employment options for veterans and military families. The 2017 list contains more than 1,200 schools whose policies and campus climate meet the organization’s criteria for issuing the Military Friendly designation.

“We are exceptionally proud that UNCW is living up to its ongoing promise to help military-affiliated students succeed in their pursuit of higher education and their career goals,” said Bill Kawczynski, the university’s director of military affairs. UNCW opened in 1947 as Wilmington College with a class of 238 students, 75 percent of whom were veterans.

UNCW scored particularly well in the areas of admissions and orientation policies and culture and commitment.

Colleges and universities were rated on a variety of factors, including admissions and orientation policies, culture and commitment, financial aid, student support and retention, graduation benchmarks and career paths. The organization has published rankings since 2003 and evaluates institutions using public data, an online survey completed by a representative of the college or university, as well as financial aid and other programs that support military-affiliated students.

This latest military friendly designation follows recent recognitions of UNCW as a top school for veterans by U.S. News & World Report and Military Times.
