Campus Services Closing Early Friday; Tropical Storm Hermine Scheduled to Pass Through During the Night

4:10 p.m. -- Tropical Storm Hermine is projected to pass through Wilmington and surrounding communities overnight.The Student Recreation Center and the student center and union will close at 5 p.m. Campus Dining and  Randall Library will close at 6 p.m. Other events and activities will conclude by 8 p.m. Please see individual event websites for specific information.

Heavy rains and sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of up to 55 mph are expected in Wilmington and surrounding areas from 6 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3. Weather conditions are projected to improve rapidly on Saturday and campus events will resume as scheduled.

Remain indoors as much as possible during the storm. Area beaches are affected by dangerous rip currents. Stay out of the water as directed by signage and safety personnel. Potential hazards during tropical weather include downed tree limbs and debris; temporary loss of power; standing water; and slick surfaces, particularly on steps and walkways. Roadways may be temporarily flooded. Do not attempt to drive through standing water. Do not enter standing water on foot; there may be significant risks of infection or electrocution.

Students, faculty and staff are advised to exercise caution until the storm passes. Faculty and staff should consult the Adverse Weather Policy (Condition 1) to determine their best personal course of action. (This condition states that personnel can make independent decisions in regards to their safety in report to work, but personnel must use leave time if they choose to be absent.)
