“Syn*co*pa*tion” Exhibit to Open at the UNCW Cultural Arts Building Arts Gallery
Monday, June 06, 2016
Artist Christopher Thomas brings his paintings, which combine the appearance of technology with abstract art, to UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building Arts Gallery in the summer exhibit “Syn*co*pa*tion.” The exhibit begins with an opening reception and introduction by the artist at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 9, and runs through Aug. 11.
Thomas incorporates handmade strokes and markings that resemble the pixels of a computer-generated image.
“People are doing work by hand that suggests digital,” said Donald Furst, CAB gallery director and UNCW professor of art and art history. “The trend is to bridge the two realms.”
A resident of Climax, NC, Thomas is the studio foundations coordinator for UNC Greensboro’s art department.
Summer hours for the CAB gallery are noon-4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Admission is free.
