Monday, May 23, 2016

Charles Hardy, dean of the College of Health and Human Services, has been selected for membership in the NC Institute of Medicine. Hardy joins a prestigious body that includes more than 100 leaders in health care, academics, business and policy across the state.

“I am honored by this opportunity to contribute to the advancement of health policy and health care in the state,” Hardy said. “UNCW’s participation in the NCIOM will further CHHS’ mission not only to educate future care providers, but to work with communities and the state on ways to improve the health of North Carolina residents.”

The NCIOM is an independent, quasi-state agency chartered by the NC General Assembly in 1983 to provide nonpartisan information on health issues. NCIOM task forces study and develop workable solutions for complex health concerns facing the state.

“We are pleased to welcome these new members to the NCIOM,” said Dr. Adam Zolotor, president and chief executive officer of the NCIOM. “We look forward to working with them to continue the mission of the institute, seeking constructive solutions to statewide problems that imped the improvement of health and efficient and effective delivery of health care for all North Carolina citizens.”

As a member, Hardy may serve on selected task forces or be asked to write or review material for the North Carolina Medical Journal. His current term runs through 2020, with an opportunity for reappointment.
