UNCW Theatre Presents "Mad Forest" April 14-17 and 21-24
Friday, April 08, 2016
The UNCW Department of Theatre will conclude its 2015-2016 season with the production of Mad Forest. Under the direction of assistant professor Ed Wagenseller, Mad Forest runs on the Mainstage Theatre in the UNCW Cultural Arts Building April 14-17 and 21-24.
Written by famed English playwright Caryl Churchill, the three-act production is a part-fiction, part-historical snapshot of Romania before, during and after the Romanian Revolution of 1989.
“Mad Forest is an ideal production for academic theatre,” said Wagenseller. “It validates the need to tell the story of this forgotten revolution and of the theatre’s power to teach."
Part one, Lucia’s Wedding, takes place pre-revolution. Part two, December, includes the actual accounts from those in Bucharest as dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and wife Elena were ousted and executed. Part three, Florina’s Wedding, takes place after the revolution as the Romanian people cope with living in a post-communist world.
Mad Forest will run at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $12 for seniors, UNCW employees and alumni and $6 for students (sales tax included.)
Tickets are available for purchase in person or online via the Kenan Box Office or by calling 910.962.3500. They may be bought in-person an hour before each show.
