UNCW Expo: Soaring with STEAM in the Great Outdoors
Monday, April 04, 2016
UNCW is hosting a regional STEM Expo on Friday, April 8, as part of the North Carolina Science Festival. The event will feature interactive Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math stations for families and children of all ages. Many of the activities will focus on this year’s theme “Soaring with STEAM in the Great Outdoors.”
From 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., members of the campus and community are invited to explore free, hands-on science and arts activities across campus and meet local scientists and engineers.
This year's expo features National Geographic Emerging Explorer and environmental educator Juan Martinez. He spearheads the Natural Leaders Network of the Children & Nature Network, an organization creating links between corporations, government, environmental organizations, education and individuals to reconnect children with nature. He will deliver a keynote address at 7 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium on the importance of getting youth outdoors.
The Watson College of Education will serve as the main hub for the expo, with departmental events taking place in Dobo, McNeill and Osprey Hall, the Teaching Lab and the Cultural Arts Building.
