UNCW Community Volunteers to “Stop Hunger Now” April 9
Friday, April 08, 2016
Approximately 120 UNCW volunteers are expected to pack over 38,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now this Saturday, April 9, in the New Hanover Gym. The event came together after several individual contributors and student organizations donated over a collective $6,000. A community donor matched the first $5,000, bringing the total to just over $11,000.
Christina Perez, a graduate intern for the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE), has been marketing and outreaching for the event. She is proud of the success the event has had with the UNCW community.
“Stop Hunger Now's vision is to end world hunger,” Perez said. “Meal packaging may seem small compared to other initiatives, but it is making an impact. We are helping provide meals to a child, an individual, a family who, before this, probably did not think they would be eating today or hasn't eaten in a few days.”
A board located outside the OSLE office, located in Fisher Student Center, Room 2029, lists the individuals and organizations that donated and the amount raised by the UNCW Community.
