Noted Humorist David Sedaris to Return to UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Celebrated author and humorist David Sedaris will speak to a sold-out crowd on April 17 in Kenan Auditorium.

The author of several best-selling collections of essays, including Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, he is also a regular contributor to The New Yorker and NPR’s “This American Life.”

His appearance at UNCW is an addition to the UNCW Presents 2015-16 performing arts season, which kicked off last September with music legend Ricky Skaggs and concludes in June with tap dancing sensations Savion Glover + Jack DeJohnette.

Sedaris is a native of Raleigh and his North Carolina roots often make their way into his essays. He said of fellow North Carolina writer and UNCW creative writing faculty member Clyde Edgerton’s The Bible Salesman, "How good it feels to throw back one's head and howl with a great comic novel.”

Sedaris gave a reading at UNCW in 2003 and is currently on book tour for his latest work, the bestselling Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls.

“UNCW Presents is delighted to welcome David Sedaris back to Kenan Auditorium,” said Kristen Brogdon, Director of the UNCW Office of the Arts. “His appearance gives us a great excuse to talk about UNCW’s stellar creative writing program. I’m looking forward to the reading and to the exchanges we’ll hear during his book signing afterward.”

There are currently no tickets available for Sedaris’ talk. Copies of his books will be available for purchase before and after the reading.
