UNCW Ranked a 2016 Top Military-Friendly Online Institution

UNCW has been ranked as one of the 2016 Top Military-Friendly Online Colleges by SR Education Group. The education research organization included UNCW based on factors such as a strong military culture, online support to military students, flexibility and financial aid.
In selecting its top military-friendly online colleges, SR Education Group, which publishes the Guide to Online Schools, gave extra weight to military culture and online support to select the 78 schools that made the list, which is presented in alphabetical order. In addition to efforts in those areas, UNCW recently named Bill Kawczynski as its first director of military affairs.
“With several large military installations within the region we serve, UNCW is continually working to improve and expand access to higher education for active-military members, their families and veterans,” said Kawczynski, a Marine Corps veteran. “The nature of military service requires that institutions be flexible and attuned to the unique needs of military families. UNCW is dedicated to providing excellent support along with a broad range of high-quality, accessible degree programs.”
Wilmington College – which became the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1969 – was established after World War II to address the needs of veterans returning home to Southeastern North Carolina. The presence of major military bases in the region has kept the university true to its commitment to provide opportunities for active and retired members of the armed forces.
For its list, SR Education Group relied on information compiled by Military Advanced Education & Transition, which polled more than 500 colleges, as well as information on out-of-state tuition costs, financial aid and assistance available above what the GI Bill provides to veterans attending an institution of higher education.
