The University of North Carolina Wilmington has been named a CFA Institute “Recognized Institution” based on high standards in the finance curriculum in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program.

“This recognition is a validation of the extremely high-quality finance program we have at UNCW and a milestone in achieving our vision of global visibility,” said Rob Burrus, dean of the Cameron School of Business. “The recognition also highlights a strenuous code of ethics infused in our students – standards much needed in the financial and business worlds of today.”

The CFA Institute is a global organization of investment professionals that describes its mission as leading the profession “by promoting the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society.” The institute recognizes universities that incorporate CFA Institute principles into their academic programs, including its Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

Recognized academic programs expose students to topics that equip them to take the Chartered Financial Analyst exams upon graduation. In addition to being listed on the CFA Institute website, UNCW will now be able to offer up to five scholarships to reduce the cost of sitting for those exams.

“We are really pleased that our curriculum is recognized as preparing students well for the world of investment management,” said Nivine Richie, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance.
