Weather Update: Main Campus and Onslow open, fully operational
Friday, January 22, 2016
6:45 a.m., Jan. 22 - Per the latest information from the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin in New Hanover County very shortly and has already begun in some spots. Temperatures are hovering around the mid-30s and may fall slightly inland, but are not expected to reach the freezing point.
UNCW is open and fully operational and classes will remain in session. Please visit individual event websites for updates on potential delays or cancellations of those events. The university’s Onslow County extension site is following Coastal Carolina Community College’s closure policy but as of 6 a.m., the site is open and operational.
As New Hanover County is still within the freezing rain advisory area, faculty, staff and students should exercise discretion while commuting to classes and events; accordingly, faculty and staff from affected areas should refer to the Adverse Weather Policy. Students who will be absent from scheduled classes due to weather conditions should contact their instructors. Faculty, staff and students traveling in affected areas today and this weekend should exercise caution. Please also exercise caution when moving about campus as there may be slippery areas on stairways and walkways.
Please continue to monitor the UNCW website (uncw.edu) and social media for potential updates. While the university does not anticipate the need for a follow-up campus email, one will be distributed if conditions warrant. Thank you for your attention and caution during this winter weather event.
