Thursday, January 07, 2016
One of the top fall sports seasons in the history of UNCW's athletic program has been complemented by exemplary work in the classroom, as well.
The program's 314 student-athletes compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.213, with 69 percent of the group compiling at least a 3.00 or higher GPA. Moreover, 16 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA and 14 of the 19 teams compiled at least a 3.00 average.
"We're extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our dedicated student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass. "These latest figures show that our student-athletes are not only serious about winning championships, they are truly dedicated to their academic pursuits and preparing for the future. We applaud everyone who contributed to an outstanding semester in the classroom."
The women's golf team recorded the highest team average with a 3.640 GPA, just ahead of women's cross country (3.505) and women's soccer (3.464).
"The Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) staff appreciates the support of the coaches and faculty and their willingness to challenge our student-athletes to excel academically," said Drew Scales, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services. "We congratulate all of the teams for their tremendous academic performance during the fall term."
