Wednesday, December 16, 2015

RICHMOND, Va. (December 16, 2015) – Seahawk Colin Bonner, a senior majoring in business administration and a forward on the UNCW men’s soccer team, is one of six student-athletes to receive the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award for the fall sports season.

The conference honors one scholar-athlete in each of its 21 championship sports who were among the best in their sports both athletically and academically. Nominees for the award must be a starter or important reserve on their team and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. The winners were selected by a vote of the media relations directors at each CAA institution.

Bonner of Fulton, MD, is the first men’s soccer player in UNCW history to receive first-team Academic All-America recognition. He was also named to the Academic All-District team for the second year in a row, was chosen for the NSCAA Scholar All-Region South first team and made the CAA men’s soccer All-Academic squad. Bonner is a six-time Dean’s List member at UNCW. On the field, he received first-team All-CAA and first-team All-Midwest Region accolades after leading the Seahawks with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. He was the only CAA player to be invited to the upcoming Major League Soccer Player Combine. Bonner, who made the All-CAA team in three of his four seasons, finished his career ranked ninth in points (61) at UNCW.
