Student Videos about the First Year at UNCW Shine at Annual Film Festival

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

The short video Survival Guide to Chasing Your Dreams won the top honor at the third annual Film Festival for First-Year Students (F4), sponsored by the UNCW University College. The film, starring Sarah Davidson, Laura Downing, Carolina Cottingham and Rebecca Martin, won with a story weaving in tips for college success.

Entry in the F4 film festival is restricted to first-year and transfer students at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Students create a three- to five-minute video telling a story about their first year on campus. The theme for 2015 was “Chasing Your Dreams: Your First-Year Experience.” The top 10 productions debuted to an audience Nov. 18 at Lumina Theater. This year’s film festival was the largest to date, with more than 60 submissions.

Chasing Your Dreams at UNCW, a tale of two college students pursuing their future careers created by Britton Edwards, Maggie Goode, Arianna Pearson, Sam Genesky and Madeline Morgante, was runner-up. Dub’s Declassified School Survival Guide, created by Ellen Lovallo, Meredith Wilkinson, Jenna Renfrow and Kayla Shelton was named Crowd Favorite. The film is in the style of the popular Nickelodeon sitcom Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.

This year’s top films and the winners from previous years are available on the F4 website.
