Junior infielder Lauren Moore has been named as an All-America Scholar-Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2014-15 academic year.
"Lauren is an exceptional young woman," Coach Kristy Norton said. "The honor is well deserved and we are very proud of her efforts in the classroom and on the field."
Moore, who is one of 1,554 players in Division I recognized by the NFCA, started 41 of 43 games as a sophomore and was the Seahawks' fifth-leading hitter with a .247 average. One of the Seahawks' team captains last year, she posted 20 hits, including three doubles, and scored 12 runs.
As a junior, Moore is serving as the president of the UNCW Student-Athlete Advisory Council and oversees the Council's community service outreach efforts. In 2014, she organized a volleyball tournament to aid in the fight against breast cancer. The "Positive Energy, Positive Impact" tournament featured six teams and helped to fund ground-breaking initiatives in cancer research while helping to impact the lives of women living with cancer.
A biology major, Moore has posted a 3.91 cumulative grade point average, including a 4.0 GPA in her major. She has hopes of pursuing a degree in neurosurgery after graduating from UNCW.
