The screening, hosted in partnership with UNC-TV, will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A session with the director. “Debt of Honor” will premiere nationally at 9 p.m., Nov. 10 on PBS.

The film seeks to inspire an important dialogue about how Americans treat their veterans while also imparting a message of compassion and mutual understanding. As advances in the field of medicine occur, many soldiers are no longer dying in the combat zone. Yet they still carry the scars of war, both visible and invisible, long after they leave the battlefield behind.

“There is a real necessity to bridge the gap between civilians and those who have served in the military,” according to Burns. “It is our hope that the film will encourage a candid discussion in communities across the country, and create understanding and awareness of the sacrifices involved in military service.”
