UNCW Faculty Honored with Awards for Teaching, Scholarship and Service

The University of North Carolina Wilmington proudly celebrates faculty accomplishments by presenting several annual awards in honor of their teaching, scholarship and service. The 2015 recipients were announced at the fall faculty meeting on Sept. 10.

Professor of English Cara Cilano, director of University Studies, received the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award in recognition of her excellence in scholarship, research and creativity, including activities that involve campus colleagues and students.

Professor Julian Keith, chair of the Department of Psychology, was presented with the most prestigious award conferred at UNCW, the Board of Trustees Teaching Excellence Award. He also received the Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award.

Other award recipients are:

Professor Donna King, associate chair, sociology and criminology – J. Marshall Crews Distinguished Faculty Award

Senior lecturer Glenn Pack, film studies – Lecturer of the Year

Lecturer Ashley Bissette Sumerel, English – Lecturer of the Year

Professor Wei Feng, mathematics and statistics – Graduate Mentor Award

Senior lecturer Ashlee Balena, world languages and cultures – Excellence in e-Learning Award

Associate professor Julie-Ann Scott, communication studies – UNCW Distinguished Scholarly Engagement and Public Service Award

Associate professor Steve Elliott, associate director, School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (SHAHS) – Distinguished Teaching Professorship Award
