UNCW’S “You Are Not Alone” PSA Receives National Award

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

The University of North Carolina Wilmington has been named a Bronze winner of the 36th Annual Telly Awards for “You Are Not Alone,” a Public Service Announcement (PSA) created by the Office of University Relations (OUR) to support the efforts of the university's Collaboration for Assault Response and Education (CARE) program. With nearly 12,000 national and international entries, the Telly Awards are premier honors given to outstanding cable commercials, programs, films and productions. The PSA was bestowed to the university in the Telly Awards’ “Social Issues” category.

Victoria Foley ’14, a UNCW film studies major and former OUR intern, wrote and directed the PSA, in collaboration with Jesse Bradley, OUR’s videographer and editor.

“It's so rewarding to see Victoria and Jesse's work recognized with this prestigious award," said Janine Iamunno, Executive Director of UNCW's Office of University Relations. “Our team is very fortunate to get so many opportunities to tell the story of UNCW, and we loved being able to create a meaningful applied learning experience with this project. The work that our campus partners are doing to support and protect our students deserves as bright as a spotlight as we can give it."

Inspired by the White House’s “It’s On Us” campaign, the one-minute PSA is about sexual assault prevention. Reminding the community that it is everyone’s responsibility to keep UNCW a safe place, the video showcases UNCW students practicing safe and active bystander intervention tactics and expresses support for victims of harassment and violence.

The Telly Awards were founded in 1979 and annually showcase the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies and corporate video departments from around the world. Judges are comprised of highly qualified creative professionals who are previous winners; each rate the entries on a 10-point scale. Bronze winners must receive a 7.0 to 8.9; 9.0 or higher receives a “Silver Telly,” the highest honor. Previous Telly Award winners include BET Networks, Bloomberg, Disney, ESPN, Coca Cola and Warner Brothers.
