Samantha Taylor and Zeinab Savage, both 2015 UNCW graduates, have been accepted into this year’s Teach for America’s corps.

A national nonprofit, Teach for America works in partnership with communities to expand educational opportunities for children facing the challenges of poverty. Corps members commit to teach for two years in high-need urban or rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in pursuit of educational equity.

Working in partnership with parents and principals and alongside educators of all backgrounds, Taylor and Savage join a diverse group of individuals working to expand educational opportunities for low-income students.

Both Taylor and Savage hold degrees in English. Taylor will stay in North Carolina, while Savage will be working in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Our corps members and alumni have made a meaningful impact with their students and communities over time,” said Elisa Villanueva Beard, co-CEO of Teach for America. “I can’t wait to see the leadership, passion, dedication and innovation this year’s corps will bring to their classrooms nationwide.”

This year, approximately 4,100 total students from more than 44,000 applications were accepted into the 2015 teaching corps. Currently, more than 37,000 alumni of the program are working across sectors to ensure children have access to an excellent education.
