Andrea Monroe Weaver, community relations manager in the UNCW Office of University Relations, is the recipient of the H. Lewis Gaston Award from the College News Association of the Carolinas (CNAC).

The annual award, named in honor of a former CNAC president, recognizes a CNAC member for outstanding service to the association and for accomplishments in public relations in higher education. CNAC is composed of higher education public relations professionals from public and private schools across the Carolinas.

Weaver received the award during the organization’s annual conference in Spartanburg, SC. She recently completed a two-year stint as CNAC president.

“This is an award from my peers, and I am very grateful for their support,” said Weaver.

Weaver has more than 20 years of experience as a writer, editor, speechwriter and communications project manager. She joined UNCW in 2004 after serving as website editor and acting director at Meredith College. Prior to that, she served as director of public relations at Peace College and Pfeiffer University and was a reporter for the Greensboro News & Record and the Wilmington StarNews. This past fall, she was a UNCW Staff Award of Excellence nominee.

She holds a bachelor's degree from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her professional accomplishments include four awards for speechwriting from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and a website content/design award from the Raleigh Public Relations Society.
