Tuesday, March 03, 2015

Isaac Bear Early College High School has been selected as North Carolina’s high school division winner for this year’s ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign. The early college high school will represent North Carolina at the national competition for leadership in college and career readiness.

Isaac Bear, a partnership between UNCW, New Hanover County Schools and N.C. New Schools, is an accelerated high school education program that provides students an opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits. Students complete honors level courses during their freshman and sophomore years, with an emphasis on academic rigor and college readiness, and take courses at UNCW during their junior and senior year of high school.

The ACT campaign celebrates achievement and success in developing students that are ready for college and careers.  It recognizes exemplary college and career readiness efforts of one student, one high school, one community college and one employer from each of the participating states. National winners are honored at the National Gala in Washington, D.C.

Isaac Bear Early College High School will be recognized as the state winner during the State Board of Education meeting on April 2.
