Thursday, February 12, 2015

An image taken by Jason White, operations field manager with UNCW’s Undersea Vehicles Program, has been named a winner in a multimedia competition hosted by Kongsberg Maritime.

White was one of two winners in The Full Picture Photo and Video Competition. He won in the category of Best Digital Stills Images with a photo of a Caribbean (Giant) Anemone (Condylactis gigantean).

The image was captured on a Shakedown Cruise with a new Sub-Atlantic Mohawk ROV, purchased by the National Marine Sanctuaries Foundation and operated by UNCW.

Since 2103, White has operated and maintained three Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) for the UNCW Center for Marine Science. In addition to supporting undersea science research, he maintains all aspects of the ROVs in between offshore missions.

The winning entries will be on display in the Kongsberg Maritime booths at the Underwater Intervention 2015 in New Orleans, LA and the Subsea Expo 2015 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
