’Tis the Season ‘Tuba’ Jolly with a UNCW Tradition: Tuba Carols

Friday, December 05, 2014

The UNCW Music Department will host its annual “Tuba Carols” event at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7 at Independence Mall in Wilmington. The event, which will be held near JCPenney, is free and open to the public.

Professor and legendary tubist Daniel Johnson will lead the program, which features tubas and euphoniums, or tenor tubas. Tubists of all ages and abilities have been invited to participate in the show. This year’s guest conductor is Eddie Stuart, vice chancellor for University Advancement.

“We have been celebrating the holiday season with this unique musical tradition for over a decade,” Johnson said. “This event has an audience participation element that is exciting. People probably won’t bring their tubas, but they will usually participate in a sing-along.”
