Annual Film Festival Showcases the First-Year Experience at UNCW

Last month, the second annual Film Festival For First-Year Students (F4) premiered the top 10 student-made films in Lumina Theater. The theme of this year’s festival was “Avatars, Ambition and Adventure: Your First-Year Experience at UNCW.”

Film submissions were limited to first-year students enrolled in first-year seminar and covered a range of topics, from portraying life as a video game to what makes UNCW diverse. The event gives students the opportunity to reminisce (and laugh) about the challenges of their first year and share common experiences with their peers.

Creatures of the Wild starring Alexander Kuppler, Nathaniel Liu, Joey Feranda, Kimberly Carscaddon, Tara Capel, Zachary Inserra, Pamela Garcia and Brent Jansen, was announced as the winner. The video is a mock nature show, complete with an Australian narrator, exploring the life of a normal student at UNCW.

Wilmy Player One, created by Savannah Figuracion, H. Boston Dao, George “Trey” Clayton, Kelsey Eaves and Kelsey Davis, was the runner-up. This film aligns college life to a video game, giving players points for good decisions and taking away points for incorrect responses to freshmen transitional topics such as time management.

Other notable films were Heroes of UNCW and Hammock Talk. A montage of all the films is available at the F4 website.
