Building Community Connections: UNCW Nursing Students Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

The UNCW Association of Diversity in Student Nursing’s constitution embraces the celebration of social justice and actively commits the group to community involvement.

On Nov. 15 and 22, the group of 40 nursing students put their academic responsibilities aside to give their time to a project for Habitat for Humanity. Over the course of two days, the students worked on a house for a family in Wilmington, N.C.

“The students involved are full-time nursing students, some also have jobs in addition to their studies, and yet they are committed to paying it forward,” said Pamela Levesque, assistant professor of nursing and faculty adviser to the group. “I am proud to serve with them.”

Through their involvement with Habitat for Humanity, these students are staying true to their organization’s roots while helping a local family move closer to their dream of home ownership.
