Dram Tree Shakespeare – Wilmington’s newest theatre company – is bringing together a team of creative minds to build a nonprofit company that will combine the modern vitality and vibrant history of Wilmington with its artistic energy.

Christopher Marino, an assistant professor in the UNCW Department of Theatre, has been chosen as the company’s artistic director.

“I am thrilled at the prospect of guiding this company into existence,” said Marino. “Since joining the faculty at UNCW last year, it was always my intention to start a classical company here in Wilmington. I want to make a contribution that will add to the community, and a destination theatre would be a financial and artistic boom to this town.”

With more than 20 years of experience in theatres and universities across the U.S. and England, Marino brings unique perspectives to the table.

“What is special about Dram Tree is that it will allow me to continue my work in Shakespearean education and performance,” he said. “I have been fortunate enough to have trained with some of the best people out there, and I am so happy to be able to share the benefits I have received.”

Dram Tree plans to stage its first production in 2015.
