The UNCW College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) hosted its convocation on Sept. 10. CHHS houses three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing and School of Social Work.

"This is a special day for our college," said Yancey Taylor McCoury, a student in the clinical research program, in the opening remarks.

Charles J. Hardy, (pictured) founding CHHS dean and professor, welcomed the members of the community and "the community of scholars" who were in attendance as "they are all critical to the college's success. This is a celebration of our college, the new academic year and for the students accepted into our professional schools."

Hardy encouraged students to "take up the habit of excellence," and reminded faculty "the education of students is job number one."

Speakers at the event included Student Government Association president Tobi Polland; UNCW alumna Stephanie Lanier and UNCW Faculty Senate president Gabriel Lugo, who recited the saying, "Healthy body; healthy mind," in both Latin and Spanish. The UNCW High Seas A Cappella Club closed the ceremony after which attendees enjoyed a carnival on the lawn of McNeill Hall.
