Autism Takes Flight at ILM

Friday, April 04, 2014

Wilmington International Airport, UNCW, Coastal Autism Solutions, and Cape Fear are offering families of children with special needs a unique opportunity to experience the airport on April 26. The process of going to the airport and taking a flight can be overwhelming for any family, but there are unique challenges when bringing along a child with special needs. This event will provide families with the chance to practice the entire process: getting a boarding pass, checking a bag, going through security, waiting at the gate and viewing a plane.

Board certified behavior analysts from UNCW, Coastal Autism Solutions and Cape Fear will be there to provide families with assistance, tips for success, and materials they can take home for future use. Current graduate students from UNCW's clinical psychology graduate program will also be volunteering at this event.

The event will take place at Wilmington International Airport. Availability is limited. We will be able to accommodate 20 to 30 families depending on family size. Families need to pre-register before April 14 by contacting Coastal Autism Solutions at (919) 630-8764 or
