UNCW Raises More Than $118K in 24 Hours, Far Surpassing Goal of $24K

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

The University of North Carolina Wilmington completed their first-ever 24-hour giving challenge at 8 a.m. this morning and raised more than $118,000, the University has announced. The goal of UNCW's "24 in 24 Challenge" was to raise $24,000 in 24 hours in order to secure a private gift of an additional $24,000. The gift will be allocated, in its entirety, to student scholarships.

UNCW reached its goal within just 12 hours of the 24-hour period. Alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and other supporters of UNCW made donations online, by phone, and by text, and were able to specify which program or area of the UNCW campus they wanted their donation to support.

"The success of this campaign is a true testament to the passion our supporters feel for UNCW, and the commitment they've made to our students' success," said Chancellor Gary L. Miller. "The generosity we've seen over the past 24 hours is certainly inspiring when we consider the impact it will have for the over 70% of our students who receive some type of financial assistance."

Spearheaded by UNCW's Office of Advancement, the campaign was launched virtually at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25 and ran until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26. The university is continuing to tally gifts; final numbers will be released when available.
