20th Anniversary Oozeball Tourney Scheduled April 20

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

On April 20, the Gazebo Fields at the back of the UNCW campus will be swarmed by nearly 1,000 students dressed in T-shirts, swimsuits and other outdoor wear in hopes of becoming Oozeball champions.

Oozeball is an annual mud volleyball tournament hosted by Student Ambassadors. This bracket style, single elimination competition is a UNCW tradition, and this year marks the tournament's 20th anniversary. More than 140 teams are signed up to play, making this the largest Oozeball in UNCW history.

"Planning Oozeball has been a long but exciting process," said Sarah Lively, Oozeball Chair for Student Ambassadors. "My vision for this year's tournament was to not only make it the largest one we've ever held, but also to make it more interactive."

In another first, Hawkstream Radio, UNCW's student-led radio station, will provide music for the event. The Wilmington Fire Department, which hoses down the mud courts throughout the day, will also have a team playing this year.

Who will be this year's winner? Perhaps the CSB EntreprenOOZERS, Cruisin' for an Oozin', or Oprah's O? No matter the ultimate outcome, all of the teams participating will enjoy a stress-free Saturday before exams by playing volleyball in the mud.
