Global Citizen Award

Awards

The UNCW Office of Global Partnerships and International Education provides faculty with summer salary for curriculum development that supports UNCW’s learning goals related to global citizenship. Awards range from a minimum of $2,500 to a maximum of $6,000 and can also be used to subsidize international travel associated with course development. Apply by February 1 for the following summer term.

Eligibility

  • Full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply. Proposals from full-time lecturers will also be considered.
  • Recipients of the award may not teach during Summer I or II as it is expected that they will be devoting full time during one of these summer sessions to curricular development and/or on-site travel associated with the course.
  • Faculty are not eligible to receive the award two years in a row.

Applicant Instructions

  • Email your completed cover page and application to global@uncw.edu by February 1 for the following summer term.
  • Awards will be announced via email.
  • Recipients choose whether to receive the stipend in Summer I (June) or Summer II (July).
  • Recipients must send a final report (PDF) to the Associate Provost of Global Partnerships and International Education within two months of completion of the semester in which the new course is taught.

Complete Applications Include

  • Global Citizenship Award Cover Page (PDF) signed by the applicant, department head, and dean or director.
  • Course description and explanation of how the course will contribute to UNCW’s learning goals and strategic goal of global citizenship. If this is a multi-section course, show how the section will differ from others.
  • Sample syllabus outlining expected learning outcomes and sources for achieving those outcomes (exams, projects, quizzes, etc.).
  • List bibliography, research, textbooks, software, technology, etc. to be consulted or implemented in the creation of the course.
  • Curriculum vitae, not to exceed two pages.
  • If applicable, state how this course may also relate to your research.
  • Include any other relevant material.

Complete Applications Include

  • Awards range from $2,500 to $6,000 per faculty member.
  • Recipients may elect to receive the stipend in either Summer I (June) or Summer II (July).
  • Awards selected for Summer II (July) are awarded provisionally, contingent on the next fiscal year’s budget.
  • Proposals from all disciplines are welcome but special consideration will be given to projects that support the global sections of the University Studies curriculum, namely “Living in a Global Society” and an international offering for “Explorations Beyond the Classroom (EBC).” It would strengthen proposals to add the appropriate University Studies paperwork for getting a course approved for inclusion in the EBC category.
  • A subcommittee of the International Programs Advisory Committee will evaluate proposals and make funding recommendations to the Associate Provost of Global Partnerships and International Education.
  • If the faculty recipient leaves the university before the selected summer session, the award will be forfeited and may be re-awarded to another applicant. Please contact global@uncw.edu if you are no longer able to use the award in the intended timeframe.
