The First Year Research Experience (FYRE) program helps connect first-year students to one of the things that UNCW does best — faculty-mentored undergraduate research, creative scholarship, and community engagement.
Research opportunities through this program span across all colleges on campus. Students work on research projects with faculty for 3-5 hours per week during the Spring semester. Simultaneously, they enroll in special sections of HON 191 where they build communities with their peer researchers and learn how to put their research in context. Each April, they present their research at the Spring Showcase of Student Research and Creativity.
