Internships

An internship will also allow you to apply what you have learned in your course work to the "real world," allow you to develop your job search skills and help you acquire a network of contacts.

A foreign internship will most likely meet your international experience requirement. Credit-bearing, experiential international internships and service-learning programs are available through, UNCW’s close affiliate, ISA.

Additionally, International Studies students are encouraged to contact the UNCW Career Center to explore the other possibilities of an international internship.

Students are required to complete a 3 credit hour international experience and an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.

• This may be fulfilled through participation in a formal education abroad program or through foreign-based work, service, or internship activities.
• This experience must be approved by the Chair of International Studies.
• Academic credits earned may be applied to the requirements of the major.

• International students enrolled in the North America concentration must complete an internship within North
  • America or a directed independent study
  • INT 491—Directed Individual Study

Proficiency through 202 level or higher in a foreign language, preferably the language used for study abroad placement.

Currently this includes:

• Arabic (ARB)
• French (FRH)
• German (GER)
• Japanese (JPN)
• Portuguese (PRT)
• Russian (RUS)
• Spanish (SPN)

FLL 292s: Swahili, Persian and Hindi/Urdu through UNC World Language Exchange.

If the language is not offered to the 202-level, other arrangements are possible.

International students enrolled in the North America concentration must provide documentation of their proficiency (equivalent to the 201 level) in a language other than English other than English to at least the 202-level. This language will preferably be used for the International Experience Requirement.
