Healthy Hawks Workplace Signature Program for Individuals

This 12-month self-directed challenge provides three optional paths to well-being that include assessing, planning, learning and reflecting. Start any time! Simply fill out the application and a member of HR's Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team will connect with you to help you get started on your path. Please remember, supervisor approval is required for any programming that takes place during your normal working hours.

Bronze Level

Hours of Engagement: 20

Requirements: Those who wish to achieve the bronze level should complete a total of 20 hours of engagement, including the following:

  • One 60-minute meeting with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team to explain the program and help you chart your path
  • One pre-approved well-being assessment (CliftonStrengths) and debrief with a coach
  • Five hours of formal classroom lectures or workshops* + five reflection journal entries (one for each workshop) *not limited to campus lectures or workshops
  • Five hours of community service
  • Five hours of a physical or spiritual well-being activity of your choice
  • One hour of a sustainability or financial well-being activity of your choice
  • One final reflection (verbal or written) at the end of the 12 months (submit to the same member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team from the start of the program) during which you will receive your completion certificate

Silver Level

Hours of Engagement: 38

Requirements: Those who wish to achieve the silver level should complete a total of 38 hours of engagement, including the following:
  • One 60-minute meeting with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement& team to explain the program and help you chart your path
  • Two pre-approved well-being assessments (CliftonStrengths and The Four Tendencies) and debriefs with a coach
  • Ten hours of formal classroom lectures or workshops* + ten reflection journal entries (one for each workshop) *not limited to campus lectures or workshops
  • Ten hours of community service
  • Ten hours of a physical or spiritual well-being activity of your choice
  • Two hours of a sustainability or financial well-being activity of your choice
  • One final reflection (verbal or written) at the end of the 12 months (submit to the same member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement from the start of the program) during which you will receive your completion certificate

Gold Level

Hours of Engagement: 56

Requirements: Those who wish to achieve the gold level should complete a total of 56 hours of engagement, including the following:

  • One 60-minute meeting with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team to explain the program and help you chart your path
  • Three pre-approved well-being assessments (i.e. CliftonStrengths, The Four Tendencies, and other to be determined by coach) and debriefs with a coach
  • Fifteen hours of formal classroom lectures or workshops* + fifteen reflection journal entries (one for each workshop) *not limited to campus lectures or workshops
  • Fifteen hours of community service
  • Fifteen hours of a physical or spiritual well-being activity of your choice
  • Three hours of a sustainability or financial well-being activity of your choice
  • One final reflection (verbal or written) at the end of the 12 months (submit to the same member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team from the start of the program) during which you will receive your completion certificate

What can I expect during the initial 60-minute meeting?

During this meeting, you'll work with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team to collaboratively create your customized plan for this signature program. This includes setting goals and milestones, identifying helpful resources and support network, and determining the reflection method (written, verbal, etc.) best for you.

What are the requirements for the reflection journal entries?

The specific requirements for your reflection journals will be determined during your initial meeting. For example, some participants choose to complete written journal entries while others prefer verbal reflections recorded in a voice-recording or video app. These reflection journals do NOT need to be submitted; they are completed using the honor system.

What is required for the final reflection?

Your final reflection should evaluate your successes, challenges, and future goals in relation to goals you set in the initial meeting. The exact deadline and specific requirements (i.e. length, format) will be established during your initial meeting. Your final reflection will be delivered during the reflection meeting.

Who tracks my progress?

You do! You are responsible for tracking your own progress in the way that works best for you.

Do I have to participate in the signature program to take advantage of Healthy Hawks Workplace (HHW) workshops?

No! HHW workshops are open to all UNCW employees. You do NOT need to participate in the signature program to participate in these individual programs

Who can participate on a team?

Any full-time, permanent employee at UNCW can participate. Each team must have a designated "team leader" who will be responsible for working with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team to plan and manage the team's goals and progress.

What can I expect during the initial 60-minute meeting?

During this meeting, your team leader will work with a member of the Employee Leadership, Learning & Engagement team to collaboratively create your team's customized plan for this signature program. This includes determining which assessment(s) your team will complete, discussing how to structure your team "kick-off" meeting, setting expectations for the mini-retreat, brainstorming community outreach projects, and determining team reflection requirements, as well as identifying helpful resources.
