Welcome to the Web Publishing's News page. Here, you can find information and updates related to the UNCW website and content management.
We hope you are becoming acclimated to the new UNCW website and enjoying its new features. Since the site launched in May, the web team has been working to refine styles and support content managers and site owners to make adjustments as needed. Some design modifications have been made to reduce font sizes and tweak spacing issues surrounding some components.
As planned, we are now turning attention to implementing Phase 2 features, including dynamic modules to better present news, events and faculty/staff profiles. We are also working to improve the functionality of myUNCW to better serve you. More information about the status and timeline for each of those features is provided below.
The news module is being implemented in a pilot project which will launch this month. The web team has been working with Watson College of Education to incorporate stories for the Watson Chronicle into the news module.
Over the fall semester, the team will roll out the customizable news module for other colleges and major units, such as research and human resources, that produce a lot of news. We will notify campus when this feature is available for use by all units.
In the meantime, content managers should continue to use the accordion on their news pages to present updates and announcements as needed, especially for publication in SWOOP. Please continue to make sure all SWOOP submissions are accessible, i.e., no Word documents, inaccessible PDFs or PowerPoint slides. Steps for creating a news item for SWOOP are available in the Cascade help resources*.
Soon, content managers will have the option to present news in a variety of ways on their webpages using components. News items will be pulled into the components dynamically. This feature will go live when the news module launches. More information will be sent to content managers and site owners at that time.
We will also roll out the events module this fall, after completing a pilot project with the Office of the Arts. Project requests will be accepted for implementation of the events module later this semester. For now, content managers may continue using their news/events pages to highlight upcoming events. Those that use Wavelink can embed events to display on webpages in a calendar format.*
The faculty/staff module, which will be rolled out in the fall of 2024, will provide a dynamic, consistent way to feature faculty and staff listings university wide.
The module will feature headshots taken by UNCW Photography Services. If you need a new headshot, please make an appointment before the end of the year.
To present faculty and staff lists for the short term, sites are provided with a page where names, titles, biographical and contact information can be highlighted. Additional components, such as accordions, are available upon request to enhance these pages. If you feel that it's imperative that team photos be presented on your pages prior to implementation of the faculty/staff module, please submit a myTAC ticket.
Please make sure to familiarize yourself with myUNCW, which is intended to be your source for information and resources to serve current faculty, staff and students. This information does not require login credentials like mySeaport, but it is organized to collect content that is intended for internal audiences. Please visit "Work Info" to find links you may have frequently visited on the Faculty & Staff page in the former website. More information about the purpose of myUNCW can be found on the Web Publishing website.
The web team has heard feedback from some employees about confusion regarding the reorganization of internally-focused content and difficulties navigating myUNCW. Please rest assured that the team is actively working to address these issues. We will also ask for your input about what features and formats would aid you in managing daily business tasks.
We continue to encourage your feedback about the new website. Please send your thoughts or concerns to redesign@uncw.edu.
