Dear Sociology and Criminology Majors,
I hope the Fall 2023 semester is going well for you, and that you are able to take some time off over Fall Break. This email contains important information about advising for the spring semester, so please read it carefully.
We are providing two advising options prior to Spring registration.
1. Group Advising. During group advising, a professor will briefly review key information that you need to know for registration. At the conclusion of that presentation, additional faculty will be available to answer any advising questions that you have. Please come prepared with ideas for courses that you are interested in taking as well as questions. You will receive your registration PIN at the end of the session. You can choose whichever group advising session works best for your schedule. I have included information about which faculty will be present below, but you can come to any session that you would like, even if your advisor is not there.
Group Academic Advising will take place in Morton Hall 100 on the following days/times:OR
2. Online Advising
We have developed an Online Academic Advising Portal in UNCW’s Canvas learning management system. You may request your personal PIN number for registration using this online portal. This “course” has enabled open enrollment. Students can self-enroll in the online academic advising course with this URL: https://uncw.instructure.com/enroll/JG9T8F Once you log in to Canvas with your UNCW credentials, you will enroll yourself in the course titled, “Academic Advising SOC CRM Fall 2023.” You will use this portal to access advising information. You may also use this portal for general information about policies and procedures about the sociology and criminology majors and concentrations.
You will need to follow a few easy steps to request your PIN number online, including watching a brief video on “Completing the Sociology or Criminology Major,” and a brief survey indicating that you understood the video and to request your PIN number to register for courses. You will receive your PIN number upon completion of these steps (within three business days).
Once you have received this PIN, you will be prepared to register for your classes. Please note that you may still make an individual appointment with your assigned advisor after you have received your PIN through the Canvas course.
On the second floor of Bear Hall, across from the main office, there is a bulletin board with information about advising, including the electives that we are offering in the Spring. This same information can also be found on the monitor further down the hallway. I have also attached a flyer with advising information on it for your reference.
Best Regards,
Dr. Waity
