Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Conducting

Doctor and Master of Music, Indiana University
Bachelor of Music, West Virginia University

Dr. Hickman is conductor of the University's choral ensembles and has led many performances on campus, in the community, and regionally. In spring 2006, the Chamber Singers were featured on the American Choral Directors' Convention in New York City in a performance of Missa Gaia with the Paul Winter Consort. In the past 23 years, the University choral ensembles have taken 11 tours in England and Europe and have given dozens of performances in London, Canterbury, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Leipzig as well as in a number of smaller towns in the German states of Hessen and Bavaria.

An active music editor, Hickman has published collections of motets by Palestrina and part songs by John Dowland with Masterworks Press of Olympia Washington and, recently, was co-editor of the publication of Missa Gaia for Hal Leonard Music. Dr. Hickman also writes articles and reviews for the Choral Journal.

As a guest conductor, Dr. Hickman has led several festival choirs for school systems in North Carolina and in his native West Virginia. He has also led orchestral groups from the Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and North Carolina Symphonies as well as contract orchestras in Wilmington, Baltimore, and New York. Finally, he has led performances involving Ensemble Courante, a period instrument group from Chapel Hill, and the Paul Winter Consort.
