Why did you study Spanish?

I studied Spanish because I knew it could connect me Spanish-speaking members of my community in North Carolina. As an undergraduate, I experienced this during Dr. Boomershine's service-learning class. I volunteered as an interpreter with the Farmworkers Clinic in Pender County, which provides healthcare and educational materials to farmworkers and their families.

How do you use Spanish now?

I teach Spanish at Richmond Community College in Hamlet, North Carolina. Approximately 10% of my students speak Spanish at home, so I am constantly challenged with creating a curriculum that will engage those students, as well as my students who do not speak Spanish at home.
