María Camí-Vela has published three books and numerous articles on the subject of Spanish cinema and Spanish women in film and literature. Her book Women Behind the Camera: Interviews with Spanish Women Filmmakers of the 90s, received the Film-Historia Award for its contribution to film and cultural studies. She was also awarded twice the Research Grant from the Program for Cultural Cooperation between Spanish Ministry of Culture and United States Universities. Very active in curriculum development, she has created and teaches courses for the departments of WLC, Film Studies and Women and Gender , Film Studies and Women and Gender Studies. She has worked as an actor, and she is associate producer of the documentaries A grain of sand (2008) and Keepers of the Water (2010). She is a member of the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies, the Association of Spanish Women Cineastes in the Film Industry and the Media, the Spanish Association of Film Historians and the Catalan Film Academy.
